General principal of foundation design

 The main objective of foundation design is to ensure that the load from the superstructure are to be transmitted to the subsoil ( load bearing Stata ) safely, economically and without any unexpectable movement during the construction period and throughout the design life of the superstructure .

Basic design procedure :- 

  1. Assessment of the site condition and preparation of site and soil investigation report.
  2. Calculation of anticipated structural loading.
  3. Choosing appropriate foundation as per :-
  • Soil condition
  • Type of structure
  • Load bearing capacity of soil 
  • Structural loading
  • Depth of water table
  • Economical factor
  • Ground contamination
  • Time factor related to the proposed contract period.
     4.Designing the selected foundation in the context of loading , ground bearing capacity and any likely future movement of the building or structure.
