What is soil compaction

The method of increasing the density of soil by applying mechanical majors due to which the voids of soil decreases thus the compactness of soil particles increase because of applied load or vibrations.

The process by which the porosity of a given form of sediment is decreased as a result of it mineral grain being squeezed by the weight of overlaying sediment or by mechanical means.

Soil compaction is the practice of applying mechanical compaction effort to densify a soil by reducing the void space between soil particles. Compaction occurs when particles are pressed together to reduce the space between them. Highly compacted soils contain very few spaces resulting in soil with higher unit weight. Maximum density is achieved at an optimum moisture content, or OMC, for short.

Compaction is the process which is used to press the soil particles close to each other by mechanical method. the mass density is increased when the air is forced to leave from the void space in the soil mass. to improve the engineering properties the compaction of soil mass is done.
