 survey may be classified based on the nature of the field of survey , object of survey and the instruments used.



1. BASED UPON OBJECTIVE OF SURVEY :-

i) Engineering survey :-

This type of survey is undertaken whenever sufficient data is to be collected for the purpose of planning and designing engineering works such as roads, bridges and reservoirs.

ii) Military Survey :-

Military Survey is carried out by every country in the world. Military survey is based on a broader spectrum. Military Survey helps in determining the points of strategic importance for the country.

iii) Geological Survey :-

Geological Survey is carried out by geologists. It is usually for the purpose of the study of earth’s rock structure. It helps to determine different strata in the earth’s crust.

iv) Mine survey :-

Mine survey involves exploration of mineral wealth in the country. This would include minerals such as Gold, copper, coal, silver etc. between the earth’s

 v)  Archaeological Survey :-

This type of survey is carried out to gather information about sites that are important from archaeological considerations and for unearthing relics of antiquity.
